My name is Bill Perkins and I'm announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America, running on the platform of The American Pride Project.
Already, the Democratic and Republican frontrunners of the 2008 Presidential election have raised and spent hundreds of millions of dollars, much of it from corporate sponsor, political action committees, and huge personal fortunes, all while trying to buy your vote. My question for you is "Is it possible to win the Presidency with a budget of only $500?"
I have three goals in this campaign. The first goal is to help you, the individual citizen, rethink what is appropriate to expect from our elected officials. The second goal is to introduce a complete plan to restore our citizen's faith in our government as one that is interested in making America the best it can be for all of us, not just certain groups and special interests. The third goal is to be the first President unencumbered by political party favoritism and financial donor indebtedness.
It seems we have reached a point of stasis in our country in which it is difficult to distinguish whether any "career politician" is concerned with a government "of the people, for the people, and by the people." There seems to be a vast chasm between corporately-sponsed, party-endorsed agendas and the desires of individuals to have a government for which we can feel genuine pride and involvement. Fortunately, we have also reached a crucial point of advancement in our technology that will allow us to circumvent "politics as usual" and redefine the democratic process within our republic.
